Maple Leafs’ Treliving Has a ‘Good Sense of What’s Coming’

No decisions have been made yet, but GM Brad Treliving has a good idea of what’s coming in Toronto this summer.

As per NHL and TSN Insider Darren Dreger, the Toronto Maple Leafs management has made no final decisions regarding the near future. Decisions are coming, and it likely won’t take long after the 2025-26 season ends before changes take place, but nothing is imminent.

“If you’re Brad Treliving, you likely have a pretty good sense of what’s coming,” noted Dreger. He believes that while some big names have become available in the coaching ranks, it seems more likely that there will be a change in management, “Though we don’t know that for sure,” he adds.

“I think ownership and senior management just want to see how the season plays out, have their internal meetings, and then make those decisions.”

Changes Are Inevitable in Toronto

Even if the Maple Leafs have a winning record over the last handful of games and play well enough to make it feel like the team might have found something, you can’t have a campaign like the Maple Leafs did and not have adjustments.

The roster won’t be the same; there’s a chance Craig Berube could be removed as coach, and Treliving might be tasked with rebuilding the roster into a contender.

And, when you consider the Vegas Golden Knights just fired a top-five NHL coach because of a bad stint and even worse goaltending, no other teams have an excuse. If a playoff-bound club is dumping its coach with eight games left in the season, what excuse do the Maple Leafs have? The answer? None.

Perhaps the best thing that can happen with this team is that the losses pile up. Get the high draft pick and make it easy for the President to mandate change. The Maple Leafs are an organization often known for their indecision, but if senior management has no choice but to move on with a terrible end, they can make the decision easily. If change is coming, the last thing this franchise needs is a reason to keep Treliving.

Toronto GM made this mess! He mentioned the kind of players Berube likes and then he 2 under 6 foot guys Domi and Marcelli to add to Cowan and Robertson.
Then he gave away Mitten and I first rounder for Carlos, terrible trade!

Berbue should stay and hire a GM who knows how to identify a Championship style of team. One who are tough, loyal to team mates and will go threw a wall for the coach.

May I suggest you trade Mathews and Riley for B Tachuck and Chaboit or another puck moving D in Ottawa.

Name Brady captain and watch what a real leader can do. That’s a good start although I am not sure Ottawa would go for this.
