Maple Leafs Get Lucky: Good News on Anthony Stolarz Injury

An update by the Toronto Maple Leafs on Anthony Stolarz injury brings good news for the and suggests they avoided something bad.

The mystery surrounding what happened with Anthony Stolarz on Thursday night has been solved… at least somewhat. On Friday, the Toronto Maple Leafs offered an update on the injury status of their goaltender and the news is encouraging. Considering how bad it could have been when Stolarz mysteriously disappeared after the first period between the Leafs and Anaheim Ducks, that the netminder is day to day is great news.

Arguments on Friday included whether the Maple Leafs might have overexerted Stolarz, who has played incredibly well for the team since being acquired in free agency. Whether that is true or not, the team appears to have avoided a major setback regarding Stolarz’s injury. According to TSN’s Darren Dreger, the team was awaiting further test results to confirm the extent of the issue, but initial reports suggested the injury is not significant. Comments from the organization seem to confirm.

Stolarz Injury News Is “Good Overall” for the Maple Leafs

Speaking to the media, coach Craig Berube provided an update, calling the news “good overall” and describing Stolarz’s status as day-to-day. While Stolarz did not practice on Friday, Berube remains optimistic about his return.

“We’ll see tomorrow if he can get out there,” Berube said. When asked if Stolarz could be back in action next week, he replied, “Yeah, I do. But he has to get on the ice first.”

In the meantime, the Maple Leafs have recalled Dennis Hildeby from the Toronto Marlies to provide depth.

Stolarz, 30, has played a crucial role as a backup for the Maple Leafs this season. With Hildeby ready to step in, the Leafs are hopeful Stolarz’s absence will be short-lived as they navigate a challenging stretch of the season.
