Maple Leafs Sign G Aaron Dell to 1-Yr Contract

NHL free agent goaltender Aaron Dell has signed a one-year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs worht $800K.

According to a few sources and confirmed by the team on Tuesday, the Toronto Maple Leafs have signed goaltender Aaron Dell to a one-year contract via NHL free agency. The contract is worth $800,000, and gives the Leafs an experienced No. 3 for the organization behind Fredrik Andersen and Jack Campbell.

This is a solid pick up for the Leafs as they needed a solid veteran third goalie in the system. His numbers were quite solid in 33 games ending the season with a 3.01 GAA and a .907 save percentage.

In 107 career NHL appearances with San Jose, the Airdrie, Alberta native owns a 48-34-12 record with a 2.76 goals-against average, a .908 save percentage and five shutouts.

Even if he doesn’t get much action in Toronto (and he likely will), this is no-risk signing as the Toronto Marlies now have a great starting goalie and if need be, he is a solid replacement in the event of an injury.

Andersen is signed through next season, which is targeted to begin Jan. 1, 2021, and Campbell has two seasons remaining on his contract. This isn’t a signing that will or should affect the standing of either one of Toronto’s current netminders.
