Maple Leafs Are Searching NHL for Goaltending Help, Checked on Fleury
The Toronto Maple Leafs are searching around the NHL looking for a potential goaltending trade option. Who are they keen on?
As per a few sources, including TSN’s Pierre LeBrun, the Toronto Maple Leafs are doing their due diligence and calling around the league on goaltenders. With Petr Mrazek crumbling in terms of his recent performances and with Jack Campbell out with an injury, the Maple Leafs feel as though they could be in trouble when it comes to their playoff run.

LeBrun took a look at some of the options the Maple Leafs might be pursuing and writes, “If you’re the Leafs, do you check with your rivals in Ottawa regarding Anton Forsberg?” He also referenced an article from James Mirtle of The Athletic noting that the Leafs might have options in Marc-Andre Fleury, Braden Holtby, James Reimer Anton Forsberg, Jaroslav Halak, and Karel Vejmelka.

When it comes to Fleury, the Maple Leafs have reached out to Toronto and asked about his interest in considering them as a possibility. It is believed that Toronto is not on his list of preferred trade destinations.
LeBrun notes during the latest TSN Insider Trading segment that he doesn’t believe Fleury would waive his no-trade clause conditions to join Toronto, but the Maple Leafs aren’t alone. LeBrun has it on good authority that the Washington Capitals also reached out and were told no.
Will Maple Leafs Take a Big Swing?
Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli said on The Fan Morning Show on Monday, “My guess is if the Toronto Maple Leafs are going to go down that path and really take a swing at a goaltender, it’s probably going to be someone of substance, someone you can feel confident in and hang your hat on for a playoff run.”
If so, we can rule out any small and marginal changes just to grab a goaltender as an insurance policy. GM Kyle Dubas wants someone with a proven track record and the ability to get hot and take the Maple Leafs on a run if Mrazek can’t handle the load or Campbell can’t go.

Jim,
I know its easy to say ‘shoulda, coulda, woulda’ but many of us, I included stated this path should have been taken when teams were actually calling Dubas about Mrazek. Kyle should have dumped Mrazek then and immediately used the 3.8M in cash to help strengthen the GK role and likely other areas of need.
Now with Jack’s poor play and injury coupled Petr’s disastorus performance the price of poker may very well have gone up. Have to hope and hope big time, that MAF only wants to go to the leafs and demands the Hawks make a fair trade for both sides.
Wishful thinking but Dubas cannot afford to erode the base much more. Pitiful that he places so little stock on the GK role while extravagently spending on forwards.
