Maple Leafs and Shane Doan Part Ways: Canucks Next Stop?
Shane Doan and the Toronto Maple Leafs are parting way, is his next stop in Vancouver and with the Canucks?
According to reports, including one from NHL insider Pierre LeBrun, Shane Doan and the Toronto Maple Leafs have parted ways. LeBrun notes, “His deal was expiring June 30. Sounds like a mutual decision.”
Doan was brought in by former Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving. With job opportunities opening up around the NHL and Treliving no longer with the organization, noone should be shocked at this development. LeBrun adds, “Doan recently interviewed in Vancouver. We’ll see where Doan ends up but he’s now a free agent.”

New Toronto Maple Leafs general manager John Chayka was hired earlier this month, marking his return following a controversial exit from the Arizona Coyotes in 2020. He, along with Maple Leafs legend Mats Sundin are now running the day-to-day operations and changes in the front office were expected.
Chayka first rose to prominence when he was named Coyotes GM in 2016 at just 26 years old, and interestingly, Doan reportedly had a strained experience with Chayka’s leadership. One of the most talked-about moments came in 2017, when Doan was invited to a breakfast meeting that he believed would involve discussions about his future with the team. Instead, he was ultimately told his time with the Coyotes was ending.
It’s not a shock that these two have chosen not to work together moving forward.
