Maple Leafs and Oilers Among Teams Linked to Alex DeBrincat

The Toronto Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers are reportedly among the teams interested in Alex DeBrincat.

There are numerous big names swirling around the NHL trade market right now, and one of the latest to be added to the mix is Alex DeBrincat.

Insider David Pagnotta has been on it reporting that the star winger has started to generate interest from teams around the league ever since Dylan Larkin requested a trade.

On Thursday he went on to specifically link the Edmonton Oilers, Chicago Blackhawks, Toronto Maple Leafs, New Jersey Devils, Seattle Kraken, and Buffalo Sabres as potential landing spots.

Pagnotta wrote:

“As the Detroit Red Wings navigate trade talks with teams about captain Dylan Larkin, some clubs are also inquiring about the potential availability of sniper Alex DeBrincat. It is unclear if the Red Wings have an appetite to explore a trade involving DeBrincat, at this stage, but citing multiple league sources, TFP’s David Pagnotta reports teams have reached out.

The Edmonton Oilers, Chicago Blackhawks, Toronto Maple Leafs, New Jersey Devils, Seattle Kraken and Buffalo Sabres are some of the teams exploring the market for a top-line, scoring winger and could have interest in DeBrincat,”

The 28-year-old DeBrincat is set to enter the fourth and final year of the four-year, $31.5 million contract extension he signed with the Red Wings in 2023. He’s coming off a career-high 85 points (41 goals, 44 assists) produced in 82 games last season.

John Chayka has shown to be very aggressive upon taking over in Toronto so hearing them mentioned as a potential suitor for a player of DeBrincat’s caliber makes plenty of sense.

The same can be said for the Oilers, who would love to add another top-six winger to slot in alongside Connor McDavid or Leon Draisaitl. DeBrincat’s ties to McDavid going back to their days in Erie further add to what would already appear to be a strong fit.

A DeBrincat trade is far from guaranteed, but there’s a lot of smoke in Detroit right now, and Pagnotta did mention that the Red Wings could look a lot different in a week’s time, so it’s absolutely something to monitor.
