The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired forward Aatu Räty from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for Brandon Buhr and Jacob Quillan.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired forward Aatu Räty from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for forwards Brandon Buhr and Jacob Quillan, the club announced Thursday.

Raty, 23, was placed on waivers yesterday and cleared today, opening the door for the trade. Räty has appeared in four games with Vancouver this season and scored one goal.

A native of Oulu, Finland, Räty has played 118 career NHL games with the Canucks and New York Islanders, recording 29 points on 14 goals and 15 assists. He was originally selected by the Islanders in the second round, 52nd overall, of the 2021 NHL Draft.

Räty also brings championship experience. In 2025, he won the Calder Cup with the Abbotsford Canucks, adding three assists in six games.

Canucks General Manager Ryan Johnson said following the trade:

“We want to thank Aatu for all he has done for the organization, and we wish him well in Toronto. By acquiring Jacob and Brandon this move gives our group two new young players to work with as we continue to look for ways to improve our overall depth.”

Internationally, Raty has represented Finland at several levels. Most recently, he helped his country capture gold at the 2026 IIHF World Championship, finishing with four goals and three assists in 10 games. He also owns a silver medal from the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship and another from the 2018 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
