It started at like $15k, and it’s climbed steadily the whole way up—already way beyond anything else Celebrini-related on the market (previous high was around $85k for a The Cup patch auto).

Here’s why people are acting like this is a holy grail: Young Guns is basically the modern “true rookie” set for hockey, and the Outburst Gold 1/1 is the ultimate rarity in the Young Guns Outburst line. There’s only one that exists. At this point, the current bid is already being discussed as potentially the highest price ever reached by a non-Wayne Gretzky hockey card. (Or at least the highest public bid so far). Gretzky rookies still live in that totally different universe (PSA 10s are still in the $1M–$3.75M range), so that “non-Gretzky” part matters. And it’s being framed as a legit record chase.

The Fact That Celebrini Isn’t Gretzky Is a “Thing”

There’s a funny thing about the Celebrini auction: the Gretzky comparison keeps creeping into the conversation. Celebrini context makes the whole thing make sense. So collectors aren’t just buying “a good rookie card.” They’re buying the literal face of the Sharks rebuild, the kind of player people call generational, and treating this 1/1 as the ultimate version of him.

Plus, there’s a little bonus storyline, too. The owner reportedly turned down a $600k CAD private offer before listing it on Goldin. The card was pulled relatively recently in the Chicago area. Now the only question is how high this actually goes within the time left. Is $500k the ceiling, or are we about to see this thing jump into “people will talk about this for years” territory?
