Leo Carlsson Takes a Subtle Jab at Maple Leafs After Overtime Loss

Leo Carlsson took a subtle jab at the Toronto Maple Leafs after their overtime loss on Monday.

Players around the NHL have not taken too kindly to losing to the Toronto Maple Leafs of late.

Last Tuesday, it was Nikita Zadorov calling the Boston Bruins’ 4–2 loss to the Maple Leafs embarrassing, and on Monday night, it was Leo Carlsson expressing his displeasure with falling 5–4 in overtime to Toronto, which included taking a subtle shot along the way.

When asked about the Anaheim Ducks picking up a critical point in the loss, Carlsson was in no mood for moral victories, saying one point is not enough and that they should have beaten that Maple Leafs team by at least three goals.

Carlsson said:

“Yeah, I mean, good bond. But one point is not enough in this game. We should’ve beat this team by three at least tonight, so yeah, it’s tough… I mean, it’s just tough that we didn’t win. I guess I don’t really have any other answers for you,”

The 21-year-old Carlsson is in the midst of a major breakout third season, with 63 points (26 goals, 37 assists) tallied across 62 games played so far.

Anaheim surely can’t be thrilled that they coughed up a 3–1 third-period lead—especially against a Toronto team that’s near the bottom of the Eastern Conference and without its best player.

That being said, we all know Monday night’s game was for their captain, Auston Matthews, who was, of course, injured several weeks ago by Radko Gudas when the Ducks and Maple Leafs last met. As a result, Toronto came out with far more urgency than they have all season and didn’t quit until they found a way to steal two points on the road.

The Maple Leafs will look to continue spoiling other teams’ parties down the stretch—much to the chagrin of their own fanbase, who are hoping they find a way to fall into the bottom five of the league standings in order to keep their first-round pick.
