Laughton and McMann Talk Trade Rumors Out of Toronto
Scott Laughton and Bobby McMann both talked the trade rumors surrounding them and what could be their last days in Toronto.
Bobby McMann and Scott Laughton look like they both might be traded ahead of the NHL Trade Deadline on March 6. Who they are traded for and which team they go to isn’t clear, and both are aware they don’t have much control over that situation.
Neither player carries trade protection as part of their deals, and both are on contracts that would look attractive to contenders trying to add depth production to their forward groups. Both players talked about the trade rumors surrounding them.
McMann and Laughton Weigh in on Trade Talk
“There’s been a lot of talk, I’m trying not to really pay attention to it as much as I can, but right now we’re just trying to win games and get us to feel good about our game here. That’s hard to put into to words, I’m not necessarily trying to speculate on officially leaving either, like and I think like I want to just battle here, it’s been fun my whole career working my way into the NHL here, give me the opportunity I want to continue to put my best effort forward, no matter the situation here,” said Bobby McMann.
Scott Laughton was asked about his future with the Maple Leafs and said, “Ya, it’s hard. We have a veteran team, and you show up to work every day and try to put your best foot forward. I mean, we’re all still here, right?” He added:
“Yeah, it’s not up to us, it’s out of our control, and everyone’s in their own situation and has to deal with their own things, but you have to come on the ice and be a unit together, so it’s hard sometimes. But at the end of the day, you’re in the NHL and one of the best franchises; it’s a very humbling opportunity to play here, and it’s a special place.”

Laughton isn’t looking to go anywhere, but he knows it’s a business. “I think obviously I’ve loved it here, and I love my time, and that’s all I really can control. I don’t get in the conversations too much, so I’m a Leaf, and that’s where I want to be, and we’ll see where it goes. But I’m focused on getting two points against my former team and trying to kind of get this thing rolling in the right direction.”
Who Else Might be on the Move?
There was action on Monday, as the Edmonton Oilers landed Connor Murphy from the Chicago Blackhawks. Could one of these two players be the next bigger name to go? The Oilers are also heavily being linked to Nicolas Roy as a follow-up move to the Murphy trade.
