Laine Signs 2-Yr Extension With Winnipeg Jets

Patrick Laine signs extension with Winnipeg Jets

According to TSN’s Darren Dreger, Patrick Laine is close to an extension with the Winnipeg Jets. — scratch that. according to Dreger, Laine has signed.

He wrote on Twitter: “Buckle up Winnipeg. Talks are heating up on Laine extension.”

The belief is that Laine wants a shorter term – two or three years and close to $7 million per season. It will be interesting to see how close the Jets come to meeting those numbers.

It later came down that Laine did sign. 2 years at $6.75 per season. Good deal for Laine and we’ll have to see what the last year looks like to know what his qualifying offer will be.

According to Craig Custance, the structure of the deal is:

Year 1: $6 million

Year 2: $7.5 million

Laine’s future seemed very much up in the air with rumors he might be moved in a trade if the two sides couldn’t come to terms. It would have been disastrous for the Jets who didn’t have Laine, Kyle Connor or Dustin Byfuglien at camp.

This is good news for the team who will now have their most dynamic goal-scorer back in the fold. He is currently traveling back to Finland and will be en route to Manitoba.
