Keith Tkachuk Creates Awkward Moment for Brady with Shot at Senators
Keith Tkachuk used Brady’s podcast to take a shot at the Ottaw Senators and Linus Ullmark. Things could get awkward now.
Former NHLer Keith Tkachuk has rarely been afraid to speak his mind. A rough-and-gritty player, he’s still actively trolling others and acting up, using his sons, Brady and Matthew, to stay in the spotlight. Ready to ruffle feathers at a moment’s notice, he did so this week while a guest on the Wingmen Podcast.
Speaking with his sons, Keith took the opportunity to use the platform and take a shot at Brady’s team, the Ottawa Senators. Specifically, he seemed to set his sights on goaltender Linus Ullmark, who made news this week for sitting out a recent game.
Ullmark essentially pulled himself because he was tired and not “feeling it”, which sparked debate about whether he’s a team player as the Senators are fighting for a playoff spot. When Ullmark did take the net on Monday, he got lit up by the Florida Panthers.
The timing of the exchange between father and sons is problematic. Some don’t believe his remarks crossed a line—but what it might mean for his son, Brady Tkachuk, has yet to be determined.
During the podcast, Keith offered an old-school perspective on players choosing to sit out. “Holy Christ, this whole team,” said Keith Tkachuk. “I just had a bad sleep, so I can’t play today,” he sarcastically remarked. He added, “Oh my God, disgusting.”
Brady Laughed Off Dad’s Shot at His Teammates
Keith, who played in a far more physical era, pointed out how little the Senators seem to have the will to stick in and gut things out. Suggesting that Ullmark wasn’t willing to stick in and play, goaltenders in Keith’s day played much heavier workloads and often played through injuries.
To be fair, Ullmark is not the only netminder who plays less than old goalies used to. However, his taking a break this past weekend made him an easy target for Keith. What pops didn’t think about was how it might impact Brady’s standing with Ullmark or other teammates as he awkwardly tried to laugh off Keith’s comments.

Brady’s reaction likely won’t go over well. The Senators’ captain was laughing as the comments unfolded, while Matthew quickly steered the conversation in another direction. Brady was probably trying to keep things light and avoid making any controversial comments himself, but this could reflect poorly on his leadership. It certainly won’t look like he’s going to bat for his guys.
Still, the situation puts a spotlight on Brady. Keith didn’t think about the potential fallout, and Brady was left unsure how to react. Or, he didn’t care, which is an even more troubling sign.
