Johnny Mundo (Morrison) Will Compete on New Season of Survivor

John Morrison will be on the newest season of Survivor as a Goliath taking on a group of David’s. Will he last?

If you follow professional wrestling closely — especially the smaller promotions than WWE — you’ll know the name Johnny Mundo. You might know him better as John Morrison, Johnny Nirto or Johnny Impact, but he’s a pro wrestler who got his start in a reality competition for WWE, made quite a name for himself in the business and went on to forge a huge career on the independent wrestling scene, becoming a champion in many organizations. Now, he’ll be changing things up a little and can be seen as a new competitor on the 37th season of Survivor.

The theme for this season’s show is “David vs. Goliath” and Morrison will play a Goliath — someone who has been handed the best gifts life has to offer and uses those advantages to get a leg up on the rest of society. He’ll be one of many “Goliaths” competing against a group of “Davids”— those who have faced major hardships in their lives. Can the food stamp group outlast the silver spoons? That’s what this coming season wants to find out.  It’s an interesting concept for a show, and Morrison, who will be portrayed as a bad guy on the show, should fit in nicely.

Entertainment Weekly conducted an interview with Survivor‘s host, Jeff Probst and he had this to say about Morrison’s involvement”:

And then I remember a day when this guy Christian came in, and he told us his story which was that he was always a bit of a nerd when he was a kid, and he had to overcome social awkwardness his entire life… he was, in many ways, this personification of a David…. And then we had a guy that was the polar opposite. This guy that’s known as Johnny Mundo [a.k.a. John Morrison], the mayor of Slamtown. He’s a professional wrestler, he’s gigantic, he’s charming, and he’s smart. He started with advantage, he had a great family, and he’s used all of these skills to slay everybody his entire life.

You can see in the video above, Morrison thinks he’s going to be one of the favorites on the show. He said, “I’m fast as a corvette as big as a hummer and millions of wrestling fans know me as Johnny Mundo, The Mayor of Slamtown, and I’ve been a champion of every organization that I’ve worked for. I’m something extraordinary.”

What do you think? Will Morrison be a star? Or will he flop hard as those who take the show for granted often do?
