Weird Accident Takes Jack Hughes Out Of Action For Devils

Jack Hughes isn’t expected to play Saturday against Washington, and the Devils still don’t have a clear timeline for his return.

According to the New Jersey Devils and further detailed by Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman, “Jack Hughes is out with a non-hockey hand injury. He is being evaluated, and we will provide an update as available.”

Exact details are unknown, but it is believe he slippped and fell, cutting his hand in what people are calling a “fluke accident.”

He’s not expected to suit up Saturday against Washington, and there’s still no clear timeline for his return. Hughes had been on a tear to start the year, putting up 10 goals and 20 points in 17 games for a Devils team sitting at 12-4-1 and leading the Metro. He added two assists in Wednesday’s wild 4-3 OT win in Chicago, one of the most entertaining games of the season.

More information should come soon, but both the Devils and Team USA are hoping this doesn’t turn into anything serious.

This injury comes at a terrible time and adds to a long list of Devils who are out of action. Since debuting in the 2019–20 season, the former No. 1 pick has racked up 151 goals and 371 points across 385 career games.

Juho Lammikko will likely draw into the lineup Saturday and play a bottom-six role.
