“Interesting Name Surfaced” As Senators Seek Top-Six Forward Trade
The Ottawa Senators are looking for top-six forward help via trade. Is there one available out of Anaheim with the Ducks?
Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen says it’s not a surprise that the Ottawa Senators are looking to make a trade for a top-six forward, hoping to boost their offense and scoring at the top of the lineup. What might be a little surprising is one of the names that has popped up in connection with their search.
Garrioch writes, “An interesting name that has surfaced is 23-year-old centre Mason McTavish of the Anaheim Ducks.”
He adds:
“He is coming off a difficult season with only 17 goals and 24 assists for 41 points in 75 games. McTavish was scratched for two games in the playoffs by Anaheim coach Joel Quenneville, and that has left his future with the organization in doubt. Teams have been calling to see if he’s available.”
McTavish is drawing trade interest around the league. The Senators are linked, not only because McTavish can be productive, but also due to connections with his father, Dale, who is part of the scouting department and the team’s front office. Mason is a former third overall pick and has five years left at $7 million annually on his contract. He can play center or wing.

Other teams that Garrioch claims might show interest include the Philadelphia Flyers and Montreal Canadiens. However, acquiring him won’t be cheap, likely requiring a first-round pick and NHL-ready talent.
If a trade for McTavish isn’t possible, Garrioch suggests the Senators might also look at Jordan Kyrou out of St. Louis, and Jared McCann out of Seattle. They want a player who they see as capable of playing regularly with top center Tim Stutzle.
