The Carolina Hurricanes may have just lost forward Andrei Svechnikov in an injury that’s a bit tough to watch. A potentially devastating sequence between Svechnikov and Zdeno Chara led to a very awkward fall where Svechnikov’s leg twisted underneath his body in a way a leg is not supposed to.
The play happened during a net-front battle and while it looks to be a freak accident where no one is to blame, Svechnokov was helped off the ice, did not put pressure on his right leg and it could be a big loss if the injury turns out to be serious.

Some of the Takes of the Injury Are Outrageous
In a pure showing of the ignorance of some of the media and fans covering the news, some are saying that the NHL allowing “battles” in front of the net are the reason for the injury. Or, in one case, Jack Edwards, a play-by-play announcer for the Bruins said:
What NBC hasn’t shown yet, regarding the unfortunate injury to Svechnikov: the Carolina wing playing hobby-horse, riding Chara on the back apron of the goal. You poke the bear, you take your chances. No one wanted to see Svechnikov hurt, but he bit off more than he could chew.
Yikes.
Hopefully the injury looks much worse than it actually is. We’ll have an update as more information becomes available.
