Connor McDavid has set a new Olympic record for most points in a single Winter Games tournament involving NHL players! McDavid took over the top spot from Teemu Selanne (2006) and Saku Koivu (2006), both of whom had 11 points each.
During today’s men’s hockey semifinal against Finland at Milano Cortina 2026 (February 20, 2026), McDavid recorded his 12th point of the tournament with a secondary assist on Sam Reinhart‘s power-play goal in the second period. That goal (Reinhart’s tip-in off a Cale Makar shot) cut Finland’s lead to 2-1, and it pushed McDavid past the previous mark.
McDavid entered the semifinal with 11 points (2 goals, 9 assists) through four games, tying the NHL-era single-Olympics record after picking up two assists in Canada’s 4-3 OT quarterfinal win over Czechia. His record-setting point came as captain (Sidney Crosby was out due to injury).
This is McDavid’s first Olympic appearance ever, and he’s certainly made his mark, playing at a level that even McDavid fans might be surprised by.

Canada still trails 2-1 late in the second (after Finland’s PP opener from Bennett’s penalty and Haula’s shorthanded tally), but McDavid’s playmaking means Team Canada certainly isn’t out of this game. They now have 20 minutes to tie it up.
