Andersen’s Agent Talks If His Goalie Has Asked Maple Leafs For Trade

Frederik Andersen’s agent is speaking about trade talks that involve his client being move by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

As trade talk continues to surround the Toronto Maple Leafs and more specifically goaltender Frederik Andersen, the agent for the netminder has decided to clear the air about any possible idea his client has asked to be moved.

According to Terry Koshan of the Toronto Sun, Claude Lemieux, who represents Andersen stated that his client has “absolutely not” asked for a trade. From what we’ve gathered during the discussion of possible trade buzz, it was never reported that Andersen might be looking to move on. Lemieux seems to simply be setting the record straight that any discussion about the idea of a move has not been initiated by Andersen himself.

Lemieux also notes that he understands why there’s talk about a deal. He said any trade speculation “comes with the territory” after a team’s early exit from the playoffs and their disappointing results. Any time a team under-performs, management has to make difficult decisions and look at ways to fix the perceived problems.

Leafs Have Not Asked Andersen About a Trade

Lemieux adds that the team has not spoken to him or his client about a potential trade and they’ve been given no indication that one is imminent. They’ve heard the talks and it’s logical to assume the Leafs might look at something before the final year of Andersen’s $5 million deal runs out, but nothing has been discussed.

That said, no contract extension talks between the two parties has been discussed either. Koshan writes:

The Leafs, who have a fine backup in Jack Campbell, have been linked to Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Matt Murray, who is a restricted free agent.

Among the NHL goalies headed for unrestricted free agency are Robin Lehner, Jacob Markstrom and Cam Talbot.

There is expectation that trade talks will continue to surround the team and the goaltender and it would seem the odds of him being moved are better than some might think considering the options out there in the marketplace. But, the deal needs to be right for Dubas to pull the trigger and any move needs to ensure he’s not opening a massive hole simply to fill another one.
