Got Nearly $100K Kicking Around for a McDavid Rookie Card?

For Connor McDavid fans and hockey card collectors, there’s a great deal available over at Lelands Auctions right now.

For Connor McDavid fans and hockey card collectors, there’s a great deal available over at Lelands Auctions right now.

If you happen to have $70,274 USD (about $95,188 CAD) kicking around, you might be interested in a Connor McDavid rookie card that went up for auction and is set to break the current record for the most expensive modern day hockey card ever sold.

The previous record was also a McDavid card, but this one is special.

This particular card is worth nearly $100K because of the number on the back compared to the new number on the jersey. Insanely enough, because they match, the card is worth about three times what it would normally be.

Officially listed as 2015-16 Upper Deck The Cup #197 Connor McDavid Rookie Patch Auto on Lelands.com, the card is #97 of a series of 99. Jordan Gilroy, director of acquisitions at Lelands explains:

“If this card wasn’t one of 99, and if it wasn’t his jersey number, I’ve seen them sell for $25,000 or $35,000 for a similar grade. It’s really interesting how the jersey number printed on the card can turn this from $35,000 to possibly $100,000.”

We can’t afford it, but anyone want to pool some money together? Seems like a good deal and as the article seems to suggest, once this card is sold, it will probably never see the light of day again.
