A fun story is catching some attention out of Montreal over the past few days. Former NHL enforcer Georges Laraque has made multiple comments that he’s working on securing the details of a fight between himself and former boxing heavyweight champion Mike Tyson! While the two might step into the ring together, it’s not exactly what it sounds like.

During a radio broadcast in Montreal, Laraque has said he’s talking with Tyson’s camp about lining up a fight with legendary boxer. He notes that not only is he interested, but he says the two sides are close to finalizing something. What that something is would be an exhibition bout that would be part of Tyson’s “world tour” to promote his upcoming fight with Roy Jones Jr.

During this tour, Tyson is holding three-round exhibition bouts with a number of celebrities, who would, in a way, act as sparring partners. The idea is not to have one fighter hurt the other, but more to show that Tyson hasn’t really lost a step. Laraque, being one of the NHL’s toughest fighters in history, certainly won’t shy away from a challenge or an opportunity join something so high profile.

How Realistic Is This?

Laraque said, “Things are moving forward, things are moving forward very well, on Wednesday I will be able to provide more details.” while on 91.9 Sports. “We are at about 75% of the way there.”

As long as this isn’t a full-fledged boxing match, Laraque won’t be embarassed. As old as Tyson is and as tough as Laraque was, this probably wouldn’t go so well for the former NHL forward if it wasn’t more about the show than the actual competition.
