Flyers Hint At Another Big Move Following Failed Offer Sheet

Philadelphia Flyers GM Daniel Briere seemed to hint that his team might not be done trying to make a big move.

The Philadelphia Flyers may not be done making moves. Flyers GM Daniel Briere released a statement after the team failed to land Leo Carlsson via an offer sheet from the Anaheim Ducks. In that statement, he seemed to hint that the Flyers should be a team to keep watching as they’ve got their eyes and ears open for any and all opportunities.

Briere stated:

“We understood this outcome was possible when he made the offer. While the result isn’t what we hoped for, our goal does not change – we remain committed to pursuing ever opportunity that will strenghten our team and continue to build towards becoming a consistent and perennial contender without sacrificing out future.”

In other words, the Flyers aren’t about to give away their top prospects just to add a difference-maker. What they will do is spend money or give up picks, as they were willing to do with the Carlsson move. That means they could be looking at a player or two in free agency who remain unsigned. They might be looking at another offer sheet.

It’s unlikely, however, that an offer sheet will go out to Adam Fantilli. According to reports, the Flyers don’t see the forward as having the same upside or as worth the same risk as they did with Carlsson. They’re also aware that Columbus would likely match any reasonable offer.

So who will the Flyers target? It’s a storyline worth watching, especially since Briere seems to place different value on different things. When he says he wants to make changes “without sacrificing our future”, he was immediately called out by Flyers fans who saw that he was about to give up a first-round pick in the next four drafts.
