Ethan Bear Has Injury Setback for the Edmonton Oilers

Edmonton Oilers defenseman Ethan Bear has had an injury setback. How long will he be out for the Oilers?

As per Edmonton Oilers head coach Dave Tippett, Ethan Bear has had a “setback” and was not on the ice today, nor will he play in the game versus the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday night.

Bear, who has already missed seven games with an injury was skating Sunday in a defensive pairing with Evan Bouchard and Bouchard was moving over the left side of the blue line in what many believed was a move to fit Bear back in. This suggests the Oilers just learned of Bear’s continued injury situation today.

This is not great news for the Oilers who let in six goals against the Jets on Monday night and were shifting things around with their lineup since that game. While Edmonton scored five themselves and almost came back, they couldn’t outscore their mistakes, left Mike Smith out to dry in the first period and will need to play a more sound defensive game tonight.

Other Oilers News

In other Oilers lineup changes, it looks like Kris Russell is in. Jason Gregor of TSN 1260 points out that Caleb Jones, Patrick Russell, Devin Shore and James Neal stayed on the ice for extra drills Wednesday at practice and Gaetan Haas will likely to be activated and replace Shore who cleared waivers on Wednesday.

Connor McDavid is sitting on 499 points and needs one more tonight to match Sidney Crosby with 500 points in 369 games played. He was given a rest day yesterday after coming onto the ice for only a few minutes.
