Eichel, Jones Top Insider’s 20 Trade Names to Watch This Offseason
Frank Seravalli offered up 20 names to watch this offseason in possible trades. There are some interesting names on this list.
Trusted hockey insider Frank Seravalli has made the announcement that he’ll be joining the crew of DailyFaceOff.com after leaving TSN and as part of his new gig, he’s listed the Top 20 names to watch for players who might be traded this offseason. Leading the list, as expected is Jack Eichel. Who else was on his list?
Noting that Eichel and the Sabres are headed for splitsville and while teams will need reassurance on his neck injury, but there is no trepidation about this elite threat’s contract. Following up Eichel and taking the No. 2 spot is defenseman Seth Jones. Noting, “the Blue Jackets haven’t run from the fact that Jones has informed the team he won’t be re-signing long-term there”, he is likely to be moved but his 10-team no-trade clause and lack of interest to sign an extension during the season pose problematic for interested teams. Some have suggested GMs are also a bit concerned behind the scenes about his two consecutive seasons of declining production.

Evgeny Kuznetsov takes the No. 3 spot. The Washington Capitals forward seems to have rubbed management the wrong way with some off-ice decisions. Seravalli writes, “His contract will be difficult to move, but perhaps less so after the Caps pay his $5 million signing bonus due in July.”
The No. 4 spot goes to Conor Garland of the Arizona Coyotes. Seravalli writes, “The Coyotes have not treated Garland like the player who was the heartbeat of their team” and this hasn’t sat terribly well with Garland’s camp, led by agent Peter Cooney. They submitted two contract proposals (as requested by the club) and the Coyotes haven’t even bothered to respond. “We’re just looking for Conor to be paid respectfully like the core player he was for the Coyotes,” Cooney told Daily Faceoff on Tuesday. Considering Garland was almost traded at the deadline, if he’s moved, it won’t be a surprise.
Evander Kane get the No. 5 spot. Citing friction between Kane and many of his teammates, it’s going to be a tough decision for GM Doug Wilson. Kane is still productive, but he’s often a problem. Do you choose talent over a cohesive locker room?
