Dylan Larkin Expands Trade List to Include 4 New Teams

Trading Dylan Larkin has proven problematic for the Detroit Red Wings. Some of that has to do with the ask, and the return teams on his preferred trade list are willing to give. Part of it is the size of his trade list to begin with. Believed to be the Minnesota Wild, Florida Panthers, and Vegas Golden Knights, that limited list leaves Detroit with few options.

Things might get a little easier if a new report from NHL insider Elliotte Friedman is accurate.

Friedman reported on the latest 32 Thoughts Podcast: “I think it’s more now. It’s not like I think it’s 25, but I think it’s more.” Who exactly?

”I think some of the other teams there are Colorado, Washington, and I suspect, in case people didn’t know them already, Dallas and Tampa. I don’t know how big that list is but it’s bigger than been reported. I think it’s around somewhere around eight’. That’s where that is right now.’

He added, “I don’t think it’s Canada, it’s still in the United States. But I have heard from several places now, the number of teams he’s willing to go to is larger than have been reported — and it’s obviously teams he thinks can win.”

Will This Ramp Up The Larkin Trade Talk?

The 30-year-old center still has five years remaining on his contract with the Red Wings, at an $8.7 million AAV. The action hasn’t been hot and heavy around Larkin, and he’s been forced to return to camp despite an upper-body injury. It will be intriguing to see if these new teams add any growing chatter to a possible trade.

Friedman also noted that the Red Wings are still working on a Simon Edvinsson extension and that they would prefer a bridge deal.
