Coyotes Trade Wedgewood to Stars, Karel Vejmelka Extension Close
The Arizona Coyotes trade goaltender Scott Wedgewood to the Dallas Stars and the Coyotes are working on an extension for Karel Vejmelka.
As has been reported by a few sources including Kevin Weekes, the Arizona Coyotes have traded goaltender Scott Wedgwood to the Dallas Stars for a conditional 4th Rd Pick in 2023. Following the trade, reports are surfacing that the Coyotes are on the heels of signing a multi-year extension with rookie goaltender Karel Vejmelka.
The Dallas Stars have confirmed the trade on their social media account.

Wedgewood, 29, has appeared in 29 NHL contests with Arizona and the New Jersey Devils this season. In total, he has earned a 10-14-3 record with a .909 save percentage and a 3.16 goals-against average. 26 of his 29 games were played with the Coyotes where he earned a 10-12-2 record, a .911 SV% and a 3.16 GAA. Over 190 games in the AHL, he’s had a .906 SV%.
One has to wonder what this means for the Stars goaltending situation. They also have Braden Holtby and Jake Oettinger under contract but Holtby’s name has been out there in trade talks and he’s currently on the shelf with an injury. Keep in mind, the Dallas Stars have also buried Anton Khudobin’s contract in the AHL, thus there might be something brewing for the Stars to move a netminder before Monday’s NHL Trade Deadline.
The 2023 pick becomes a third-rounder if the Stars make the playoffs this season.
