Corey Perry Being Linked to Ottawa Senators in NHL Free Agency

Is Corey Perry an option for the Ottawa Senators. He’s being linked to the team in recent UFA signing rumors.

One of the questions still lingering in respect to this offseason’s NHL free agency, is where Corey Perry will wind up. A veteran forward with some assets to offer, he could be the right mix of leader and offensive producer in a limited role and on a certain type of team. The rumored problem was, up until now, he only wanted to sign on with a contender.

There was talk early in the offseason that Perry was interested in joining the Toronto Maple Leafs. But, numerous veteran additions like Joe Thornton and Wayne Simmonds, among others, means there’s really no room for Perry on the Leafs roster. There’s potential talk Dallas may be interested in bringing him back on a one-year deal, but that’s not confirmed.

One team might be emerging as a possible Perry destination.

On ‘That’s Hockey’, TSN’s hockey insider Frank Seravalli informed the panel that Corey Perry has been linked to the Ottawa Senators. The news is a bit surprising considering Ottawa is not likely to be a playoff contender this offseason. That said, they’ve added some good pieces and it’s not clear if Perry perhaps sees them as a dark horse option or is simply running out of options.

Seravalli does add that it sounds like there’s been mutual interest from Perry’s camp, so there may be more to this than just speculation.

The veteran posted five goals and 21 points in 57 games with the Dallas Stars last season. He added five goals and nine points in 27 post-season games as the Stars reached the Stanley Cup Final.

Perry’s Not A Bad Fit For Ottawa

While the Senators continue to add short-term pieces to the lineup and hit the cap floor for next season, they’d also like players who can offer something of value.

Perry isn’t just a player who can score in the right situation, but he’s a possible trade asset at the NHL trade deadline if the Senators are out of the running and another NHL team is looking to add a low-cost option for their playoff push.
