Perry Excited For Things to Get Heated as Part of Canadiens Roster

Corey Perry is excited to join the Montreal Canadiens and be a part of a number of expected rivalries across the North Division.

Corey Perry signed with the Montreal Canadiens earlier this week. It’s possible he could have signed elsewhere, but he chose to head out east where he would be playing against his hometown Toronto Maple Leafs 10 times during the 2020-21 campaign. On a team that doesn’t necessarily need him thanks to some offseason moves, one has to wonder why Perry chose the Habs and why he chose a division where things were sure to get heated against a team he was potentially excited to play for.

According to Perry, it was actually the moves the team made that got him interested. Having noted earlier in free agency that he would want to join a winner and have a shot at the Cup, Perry believes told the media on Tuesday that the addition of players like Joel Edmundson, Tyler Toffoli and Josh Anderson were a real draw. When you add those players to the best goalie in the world in Carey Price, it’s hard not to be excited about trying to help the team win.

What About Playing Time?

Perry understands that nothing is given in the NHL and at this point in his career. He’s going to need to prove that he’s earned his spot each and every day. He’s completely prepared for that challenge.

He said he’s also excited for the rivalries that will exist in the North Division. A player who is known to often play on the edge and get a little dirty from time to time, this is the type of hockey that will right up Perry’s alley. “It’s going to get heated, there’s going to be a rivalry and each team’s going to be the same way,” he said. “There won’t be a rivalry with just one team, it will be with the whole division.”
