Connor Hellebuyck Comments on Trade and Future with the Winnipeg Jets

Winnipeg Jets’ goaltender Connor Hellebuyck was asked if the way this season unfolded for the team would cause him to re-evaluate his future. After taking a pause to think about the question (or at least how to respond), he noted that he’s not overly focused on anything other than his own game.
He said, “You know, I don’t want to leave any speculation. I love this city, and I love playing here. The fans have given me so much, and I’ve given so much back to the fans — there’s a real connection there. I wish more people around the league could see that.”
Hellebuyck Isn’t Sure The Jets are a Cup Contender
“Am I going to tell you right now that I feel amazing about winning a Cup tomorrow?” he asked. He then answered his own question: “No — no team out of the playoffs is going to say that, and no player out of the playoffs is going to say that.”

He added that he made his decision and will live by it. “As time goes by, you try to reevaluate. And honestly, as an athlete, the only thing you can do is put your best foot forward before you make your decision.”
He noted that he’s really just focused on improving this summer. The rest will probably take care of itself. “That’s where my head’s at right now. I have a nice long summer ahead of me, and I’m going to get some much-needed recovery. I’ve played a lot these past months, and I’m going to really focus on my game, break it down, and see where I can improve.”
“Being one of the best in the world is something I’ve always strived for, and I want this summer to be another big step forward in that direction.”
Other Jets, including Adam Lowry and Kyle Connor also spoke with the media and admitted that they expected there would be offseason changes.
