Chris Tanev To Be Shut Down For The Season
Maple Leafs defenceman Chris Tanev has undergone successful core muscle surgery today in New York City. The operation, though successful, will cause him to miss the rest of the season. The team announced on Wednesday that he is expected to be back in time for training camp in September.
Tanev has missed 50 games this season due to multiple injuries throughout the season, most recently missing a large pocket of games due to a groin ailment.
Tanev, in his 11 games this season, notched 2 assists and managed a plus-8 with the struggling Maple Leafs club.

The 36-year-old is currently in the 2nd year of a six-year, $27 million contract. With an Average Annual Value of $4.5 million per year.
Maple Leafs Coach Craig Berube was told by the media before the team’s game against the New Jersey Devils that Tanev wanted to make it back, but it was not to be.
The Blueliner being in on the path to returning next season is at least some light to an overall glum season. Just months ago, there was speculation about the veteran defenseman and how these injuries could affect his long-term future.
