Canucks Set to Interview Former Sabres GM For Job Opening

Vancouver Canucks seek to interview Kevyn Adams for GM position. How does his past with the Buffalo Sabres help or hurt his chances?

The Vancouver Canucks have received permission to interview former Buffalo Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams for their vacant GM position. According to a story from The Athletic, a league source says the Canucks wanted to reach out and will interview him for the GM opening.

Adams, who was fired midseason in December, still had time remaining on his contract, requiring formal approval for discussions.

Adams spent over five seasons in Buffalo and was replaced by Jarmo Kekäläinen this season. The Sabres then went on an incredible run, making the playoffs for the first time in years. It was on the back of the roster Adams built, but it didn’t get to stay long enough to see success.

The Sabres’ surge after his departure is likely why the Canucks are interested in an interview. His roster-building work is still viewed favorably.

Despite early inexperience, Adams helped assemble a competitive core and made several solid draft picks and trades. That’s the kind of situation the Canucks now find themselves in.

However, questions remain about his leadership and public relations approach. With ties to Canucks president Jim Rutherford, Adams could be a serious candidate as Vancouver continues its search.
