Canucks Reportedly Hire Ryan Johnson as GM, Sedins as Co-Presidents

As per a report by NHL insider Frank Seravalli, the Vancouver Canucks have settled on a decision regarding the hiring of their next general manager. Seravalli reports, “Hearing #Canucks are set to formally announce Ryan Johnson as the 13th general manager in franchise history today.” It is assumed he may also be announced as the Head of Hockey Operations.
Jim Rutherford is expected to take a step back and into an advisory role.
He adds, “Interested to learn the titles for Henrik and Daniel Sedin as they ascend in the front office.” Henrik and Daniel Sedin will now have elevated roles in the organization, but the club has yet to announce how involved they will be or what their titles will be. It sounds like they will be named co-presidents.

The Canucks will hold a news conference at 1:00 PM on Thursday to answer media questions and likely provide a general outline of their managerial structure and what comes next this offseason. Johnson doesn’t have NHL GM experience, but he has paid his dues as an assistant, working his way up the ranks.
The Canucks are hoping that the trio of Johnson and the Sedins, all of whom are known as good people and hard workers, can make the necessary changes in Vancouver to guide the team through its rebuild.
Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal had reported earlier this week, “The media reports that the Canucks were leaning towards Evan Gold on Monday, not the case…Ryan Johnson always had the inside track from day one.”
