Calgary Flames: Buyers or Sellers at the Trade Deadline?
While Craig Conroy will consider trade offers that come across his desk, there’s not going to be a trade deadline fire sale for the Flames.
Frank Seravalli joined the Real Kyper and Bourne show on Sportsnet and discussed his thoughts on the Calgary Flames. Nick Kypreos and Justin Bourne asked him if he felt that the Flames would be buyers or sellers at the 2025 Trade Deadline.
Seravalli said this about the Flames: “I think they’re a team that will remain right in it up until the very end.”
No Trade Deadline Fire Sale This Season for the Flames
According to Seravalli, the firesale in Calgary that many GMs anticipated likely won’t happen. “It probably means there’s not going to be a fire sale, which is disappointing to a lot of teams, I’m sure.”
So what does that mean for players with their names circling around the rumor mill?
“Will they have to consider a call or two if it comes in asking for a Rasmus Andersson or whatever that market looks like? Yes, Craig Conroy‘s going to have consider everything that comes across his plate for the Calgary Flames.”
It seems like the Flames will be playing things by ear ahead of the NHL Trade Deadline. They are in a good place with their team culture and hope that this group can help lead them back to the playoffs.
The Flames currently sit fifth in the Pacific Division with 41 points, just one point behind the Vancouver Canucks. They are also two points behind the Dallas Stars, who are one of the teams they trail in the Wild Card race in the West.
As Seravalli mentioned, they may need to take a call or two. However, if they are in a playoff spot and the team is performing well, I don’t see them changing the roster too much. At that point, they would likely add to their roster rather than subtract. On the other hand, if they fall off and are too far out of the playoffs, big-name players like Andersson and Nazem Kadri could be dealt.
