Bruins Documentary Appears to Reveal Big Trade Offer for Filip Hronek
It looks like the Boston Bruins were discussing a significant trade offer for Filip Hronek this offseason.
While the Vancouver Canucks are in the midst of a full-scale rebuild, they didn’t make too many changes to the core of their roster this offseason.
Elias Pettersson, Brock Boeser and Jake DeBrusk all are still around up front, while Filip Hronek remains on the back end. Interest in the three forwards has never appeared to be all that robust, though the same can’t be said for the latter, and it seems as if the Boston Bruins were among those seriously considering putting forth a big offer for the star defenseman this summer.
Fans have noticed a trade proposal involving Liam Pettersson, a 2027 first-round pick and a 2028 first-round pick for Hronek lingering in the background behind GM Don Sweeney in the latest episode of the Behind the B documentary series.
That obviously never came to fruition, though the Bruins do still have all three of those assets should they look to revisit such a move.
Will Filip Hronek Stay in Vancouver?
Hronek, on the other hand, recently had this to say about his feelings on the rebuild in Vancouver:
“I mean, obviously winning is really important, but I just don’t want to run away right away. So I think we can build something special here, and that’s the goal,”
The 28-year-old is about to enter the third year of the eight-year, $58 million contract extension he signed with the Canucks in 2024, which includes a full no-movement clause through 2027-28. He’s coming off a career-best 49-point (eight goals, 41 assists) 2025-26 campaign.
Whenever talk of a Hronek trade has emerged, it’s always been said that Vancouver would like to keep him around barring they receive a monster trade package that entices them to move on.That remains the case for now, though all could change if Hronek gets sick and tired of the losing.
In the end, it could be in the Canucks’ best interest to land a haul of picks and prospects while giving their top defenseman the chance to compete elsewhere during his prime years.
