BREAKING: Simon Edvinsson Prefers to be Traded Out of Detroit

While Simon Edvinsson is waiting for a contract with the Detroit Red Wings, it now sounds like he’d prefer a trade.

Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman reports that defenseman Simon Edvinsson now prefers to be traded out of Detroit. Edvinsson is skating in Sweden and staying in shape while he awaits a contract extension from the Red Wings. It seems that the entire process has frustrated the blueliner to the point that he’d rather the two sides part ways.

Edvinsson’s camp is not currently talking with the Wings about an extension, but Detroit is telling other teams it’s still trying to ink the defenseman to a new contract. Recent reports said Edvinsson wanted a bridge deal, but the Red Wings were hesitant.

David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period recently reported on DFO Insider:

“We’re getting to the point where player frustration is starting to boil over. I don’t think there’s been a formal trade request, but there’s been a few jabs tossed back and forth.”

This is just more bad news for a Red Wings organization that has had the kind of offseason that will make you squirm. They’ve got Dylan Larkin who has requested a trade and is being booed by fans. The Red Wings can’t seem to find a permanent general manager. Now, the one player who wanted to stay and sign a deal — even showing up to camp without a contract — was sent packing without a deal. Now he wants out, likely because the organization seems to value him so little that it won’t offer a fair, long-term deal.
