Brady Tkachuk Answered Recent Questions of Concern with Outburst in Ottawa
Brady Tkachuk’s recent play has sparked concern in Ottawa, with coaches and fans noting a change in his energy following the 2026 Olympics.
The conversation around Brady Tkachuk’s recent play has become a bit of a storyline over the past several days. Elliotte Friedman was the latest to discuss whatever is going on with Tkachuk on the 32 Thoughts podcast, suggesting Senators coach Travis Green had a heart-to-heart with his star player.
What might have resulted was the fight that happened when Thursday’s game started between the Senators and the New York Islanders. Brady was checked in and dropped the gloves with Anders Lee. “I was ready to go through a wall,” Tkachuk told reporters after the game.
Friedman noted, “Someone said to me, ‘Watch Travis Green from the postgame.’ I don’t know about you, Kyle, but I got the impression that Green had maybe gone to Tkachuk and either asked him, ‘Are you all right?’ or ‘What’s going on here?’ Tell me if I’m wrong, but it gave me the impression that Green had talked to Tkachuk, either said something to him, or just chatted with him, and was kind of like, ‘Am I missing something here?’
Kyle Bukauskas was in agreement, saying, “It was very clear in the postgame, Elliotte, that it gave me the impression that Green had talked to Tkachuk.” Tkachuk responded. “It’s just too important of a year to not be at my best. But for me, I just tried setting the tone,” he explained. He added, “It’s been a very long time since I’ve gotten into a fight and just needed to, I guess, get some anger out,” he said.
What’s Been Going on With Tkachuk?
Fans and media have noticed a shift in the Ottawa Senators captain’s energy and demeanor since returning from the 2026 Winter Olympics. The other night against the Washington Capitals, he was quite the non-factor. Yes, he helped Team USA claim gold, but observers point out fewer big hits, less visible emotion, and a more restrained style on the ice since those games and since returning to the Senators. Some wondered if he was experiencing post-Olympic fatigue.
“It was definitely an emotional roller-coaster. You achieve a childhood dream,” said Tkachuk. “So, mentally, it was a lot, a lot to process, lots to digest, and you only have three days to kind of get back in game shape. When you win the Stanley Cup, you have three months.”
Green seemed to acknowledge that the past month and a half was “emotional” for Tkachuk. Suggesting he hasn’t been the best version of himself every night, the team is still “lucky to have him,” and he remains a key contributor.

Whatever it is, or was, people noticed. There always seems to be a buzz around his long-term future in the organization, even though he’s remained committed. That likely doesn’t help. “He’s gone through a lot,” said Green.
There isn’t any speculation that he’s dealing with a nagging injury, and some believe this storyline might be overblown. Still, it’s clear this season he’s not been himself on a number of nights. “I believe there’s probably another level still,” said Green, pre-game. After the game, it was clear the coach was right.
