Brad Marchand Picks Surprising Target to Troll in Tim Stutzle
For some reason, Brad Marchand decided to troll Tim Stutzle of the Ottawa Senators? What is going on here and why?
Brad Marchand is never one to shy away from having a little fun and taking shots on social media at players and NHL rivals. This time, he’s picked a surprising victim: Ottawa Senators forward Tim Stutzle. Marchand’s response to Tim Stutzle being a finalist for the Ottawa Senators’ captaincy is garnering some attention.
Needing someone to wear the “C” after Brady Tkachuk was traded to the Florida Panthers, it was reported that the Senators were closing in on naming a captain, with Stutzle, Thomas Chabot, and Jake Sanderson being named as finalists. Marchand didn’t seem to think the idea of Stutzle as a captain was a serious take.
Responding, “Hahaha….Stutzle… hahaha”, fans caught wind of the response and haven’t been shy about sharing their feelings. As Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen points out, “We’re not sure what the 38-year-old Marchand’s issue is with Stutzle being a captain or if there is some jealousy involved, but we know his opinion doesn’t matter to the Senators.”
The Citizen also reported that Sanderson is considered the frontrunner, but noted Chabot is getting strong consideration.
As for why Marchand felt the need to take a shot at Stutzle, that much is unclear. Yes, Marchand and Tkachuk are now teammates in Florida. Sure, Stutzle had a bit of a reputation for diving in the past. That said, Marchand’s record in the NHL as a “stand-up” guy isn’t exactly stellar. He’s been known to embellish things from time to time, even being called out for licking players in the past.
It seems a bit hypocritical that a player like Marchand — who admittedly is a heck of a player and a strong locker room guy — would go out of his way to take an unprovoked shot at someone like Stutzle, who likely isn’t going to be named the captain anyway.
Perhaps the Senators and Panthers rivalry is heating up and Marchand just wanted to get a head start on things before the 2026-27 NHL season began.
