Bobby McMann Reveals Surprise Truth Regarding Extension Talks with Kraken

UFA forward Bobby McMann talked about a possible extension with the Seattle Kraken and revealed a bit of a surprise truth.

“It’s nice to feel like you’re part of the group, that you’re welcome, that you’re wanted here,” Bobby McMann said when he spoke with Seattle media on Friday. He noted that he hasn’t made up his mind on an extension, and the team hasn’t talked to him about one. But the players have hit him with “some nudges” to try to get him to re-sign here this summer.

On what he’s looking for when deciding where to sign:

“I really enjoyed my time here. It was cool coming into a place where we were in the playoff hunt; you could feel it in your city, and the fans. To play that meaningful hockey was a lot of fun.”

It’s the meaningful hockey part that seems to be the determining factor for McMann, who said he’s “Gonna take some time to reflect.”

“Lane is a great person to have behind the bench. I enjoy him a lot, and I am optimizing not only my potential but the team’s. They’ve treated me very well, and I could see myself sticking around.” He added, “I think the biggest thing is winning.”

“Just feeling like my style of game was wanted, that was very clear in talking with Jason [Botterill] and Lane [Lambert] … I felt like I fit a piece on this team that they were maybe missing.”

If the Kraken agree, it’s going to cost them some money to keep McMann around. The forward was playing well in Toronto before the trade, but hit another level with the Kraken when he arrived. With 10 goals and 14 points in 18 games, he was one of their top scorers.

The question will be, can McMann get what he might be looking for in Seattle, while confident they’ll be a winning franchise over the duration of whatever he signs for?
