Bedard Makes Pitch to Patrick Kane to Return to Blackhawks

Connor Bedard wasn’t shy about sharing his opinion on a possible reunion between the Chicago Blackhawks and Patrick Kane. Aware that Kane can choose where he wants to go as a free agent, speculation is that it’s down to the Blackhawks or the Buffalo Sabres. Bedard made his pitch to Kane to choose Chicago.

Bedard would love to see Patrick Kane back with the Blackhawks. He said it would give the team and the fans a huge jolt of energy. “I hope so. I don’t know what I can say to persuade his decision, but we’d all obviously be so excited to have a player like that, but also a guy like that. I can’t imagine his first game back at the UC, the reaction he’d get and how much juice that would bring not only to our team but our fans as well.”

When asked about getting the chance to play with Kane: “That would be incredible to get to play with him and learn from him. Hopefully he decides to come back. You talk about the legacy aspect of it, but as a team, it would make us a way better team. He’s still an amazing player. I don’t know if this is the best pitch, but hopefully he comes back and we can play together, for sure.”

What Would Bedard-Kane Actually Look Like in Chicago?

If Kane really does pick Chicago, the pairing writes itself stylistically. Kane’s always thrived working off instinct and improvisation — he continues to have elite talent and playmaking ability. A duo of Kane and Bedard (the old and the new) would be incredibly fun to watch.

Bedard already sees the ice at an elite level; Kane gives him a running mate who can hang in almost every facet of the game. One could argue Bedard hasn’t had the chance to play with a really elite offensive talent.

Defensively — neither has ever been mistaken for a shutdown forward. But offensively, on a rebuilding roster starved for secondary creativity, Kane-Bedard has a real chance to be the most entertaining line in hockey, even if the wins take longer to follow.
