Bedard Comments Prove Blackhawks in Lose/Lose Situation
Connor Bedard’s comments after another loss prove the Chicago Blackhawks are in a lose/lose situation with no easy fix.
“It’s really frustrating. We’re competitive athletes, and we take a lot of pride in our games, our group as a team, and our fan base,” said Connor Bedard after another loss by the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday night. A 5-2 loss to the Calgary Flames left the dynamic star more dejected than he’s appeared in some time. “It’s been hard. It’s been a lot of games to lose. It weighs on you.”
For the Blackhawks and GM Kyle Davidson, he should be listening to Bedard’s words and making a move. No, it’s not to trade Bedard to a better team. But, Davidson and Bedard need a “pro” or two that can help ease the burden of Bedard being one of the few players on the Blackhawks roster doing their job and pulling their weight.
Unfortunately, a move won’t be easy to make.
While speaking via Chicago Sun-Times reporter Ben Pope, Bedard elaborated on what parts of the game are frustrating.
“[It was] a lot of whacking up the boards or guys not being where guys are expecting to be when they’re making a pass. So that ends up making you not have options. And that makes it tough.”
So how do the Blackhawks address the problem? Good question.
Blackhawks Have Lack of Option to Help Bedard
Elliotte Friedman was asked on the FAN Hockey Show if the Blackhawks need to do something different. Friedman said, “I think you talk about those things, but you have to be honest about how realistic those things really are.” He added that the Blackhawks tried to get Jake Guentzel, and they missed out because he wanted to win, and he didn’t think he could in Chicago.

Friedman said the team added a bunch of veterans to short-term deals, but it didn’t work out. But, if they move toward youth, the understanding is that the Blackhawks will get creamed a lot, and they’ll be the same frustrations Bedard is feeling right now, which is players aren’t where they’re supposed to be. Things go from bad to worse.
It leaves the Blackhawks in a very tricky spot. They can’t get the players they need to ease the load off Bedard and get him someone who understands his frustrations. And, they can’t go full youth without risking he’ll get so frustrated he’ll want out.
His captain, Nick Foligno, said he feels for Bedard. He told reporters, “This isn’t the start of a career that I was hoping for him.”
And, when asked about reaching 100 career NHL points, Bedard said, “Right now, I couldn’t care less. Ask me in a couple of days and I’ll probably look at it a little different but just frustrated right now.”
