Not Again… Barkov Leaves Game With Déjà Vu Knee Injury

Florida Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov suffered a possible left knee injury. Discover the details of the Barkov injury incident.

Florida Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov left Thursday’s game against the San Jose Sharks after an awkward fall that appeared to injure his left knee, raising fears of another setback for the star center. Barkov went right off the ice after he fell, seemingly aware that whatever the injury is, it’s potentially serious and eerily familiar.

Barkov was battling for the puck along the boards against Darnell Nurse and Zach Ostapchuk when his left leg buckled beneath him. He went down in the corner, then immediately pushed open the door to the rink and headed straight down the tunnel to Florida’s locker room. Visibly frustrated, he was seen throwing his gloves to the ground as he left.

The scene was an unwelcome reminder of last season, when Barkov missed the entire year after undergoing surgery on his right knee for a torn ACL and MCL. This time, the issue appears to involve the opposite leg, though the circumstances look worryingly familiar.

The Panthers have not yet provided an update on the severity of the injury or whether Barkov will return to the game. Fans and teammates alike will be hoping the damage is minimal, as Florida can ill afford to lose its captain again after a long and difficult recovery.

Further details are expected following the team’s evaluation of Barkov.
