American Isle Seat Host Mike Carver Rants: Maple Leafs Are Going Down!

Outside of Canada, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiens are getting no respect. What does one US podcaster have to say?

First, who’s Mike Carver. His Linked “In” information reports that he’s the Producer of Ferrall on the Bench on CBS Sports Radio and the Host of the Isle Seat Podcast. In a video released just today, Carver gave a rant about the weakness of the North Division and about the match-up of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiens. His show seems to offer betting odds to help those wagering money on hockey games.

On his show he notes what he believed the betting odds should be if people want to wager on hockey games. From what I can tell, the show is produced in New York City.

Carver previewed the NHL North Division Toronto Maple Leafs Vs. Montreal Canadiens’ first-round series. For Canadian hockey fans, it’s a long-waited chance to see the two Original Six Canadian teams play each other. What does he think about the Maple Leafs and the Canadiens?

The Content of Carver’s Rant

Host April Epstein introduced the video segment by suggesting that the series was probably what “hockey diehards love most about this playoff race.” She added, “you’re going to see a bunch of Canadian teams go head-to-head.”

She then turned it over so that Carver could engage in what turned out to be rant about the lack of competition in the all-Canadian North Division. Carver particular noted that the Maple Leafs were basically a weak team that prospers only because they’ve face limited competition in Canada.

Maple Leafs vs. Canadiens

Carver did offer one accuracy. He noted that “it’s been 42 years since the Leafs and the Habs have played each other in the playoffs, which is pretty amazing when you think about it.”

Then he added, “Toronto is going to be the heavy favorite as expected.” He then noted that “the people up in Canada are going to throw the bouquets and pump the tires that the Leafs are going to win the Stanley Cup this year.”

Carver’s Clear: Don’t Bet on the Maple Leafs, They’ll Fold

Finally he reminded people that, “We have said it on this show and many others on the grid for months: Do not back the Toronto Maple Leafs to win the Stanley Cup! When they play good competition, they’re going to go down!”

But in his lambasting of the Maple Leafs’ team, he also threw the Canadiens under the bus when he noted that the Maple Leafs “are not playing good competition here in this first round.”

He added, “I do expect Montreal to give them a little bit of a push” and predicts the series will go to six games. He then offered his odds about the final outcome. He then suggested that a good bet would be to wager on the Canadiens to win Game 1 but the Maple Leafs to win the series.

The Maple Leafs’ Success Will Be Short-lived

Once they dispatch of the Canadiens, Carver predicted that Maple Leafs’ success would be short-lived. At the end of the video Carver noted that for the next while the team from Toronto will “get to play one of the heavies” but that “in a couple of rounds they’re going to go home crying.”

Interesting insight from outside of Canada.
