As per Darren Dreger of TSN Insider Trading, there are at least eight teams showing serious interest in the availability of defenseman Jakob Chychrun out of Arizona. A player the Coyotes aren’t interested in trading unless the return is too good to pass up, the offers are expected to come rolling in but the Coyotes might not make a deal until right before the deadline, if at all.
Among the teams interested, Dreger names the Florida Panthers, Los Angeles Kings, Boston Bruins, St. Louis Blues, Carolina Hurricanes and Anaheim Ducks. These teams are hard at work making strong pitches and Dreger notes this could come down to the wire on March 21.
Chychrun is still just 23 years old and his salary is reasonable for the minutes he logs. He’s regressed a touch this season but he’s still a few years from hitting his prime. For many of these eight teams, he’ll be worth the price the Coyotes are asking. Speculation is that Coyotes’ GM Bill Armstrong wants something in the ballpark of what Buffalo received for Jack Eichel when they traded him to Vegas.
Some clubs will inevitably bow out and move onto other targets, and it could come down to a couple of dedicated clubs.
