2 Teams Leaked on Nurse’s Approved Trade List Given to Oilers
Two teams have reportedly been leaked that are on the Darnell Nurse trade list given to the Edmonton Oilers.
Following news that the Edmonton Oilers were given a list of possible landing spots for Darnell Nurse as the defenseman has requested a trade, one insider has listed at least two teams on that list of three to five clubs.
According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, “As per sources, TFP has learned the Pittsburgh Penguins and Los Angeles Kings are two teams he would be willing to sign off for, and the connections seem clear as to why.” This does not mean that either team has yet expressed interest in a trade.
The connection in the Los Angeles Kings case is Ken Holland, who is now the GM of the Kings and was the GM of the Oilers for many years. It was Holland who signed Nurse to his huge contract in the first place. Nurse, understandably, might believe Holland still thinks the world of him.

The link in Pittsburgh might have a lot to do with Sidney Crosby as well as Kyle Dubas. Daily Hive writes, “For the Penguins, the connection is with GM Kyle Dubas, who dealt a lot with Nurse as the GM of the OHL’s SOO Greyhounds between 2011 and 2014. The Pittsburgh executive seems to have a soft spot for Greyhounds alumni, and Nurse would fit a need on the Penguins’ blueline.”
Other teams reportedly in the mix are the San Jose Sharks and Philadelphia Flyers. It is reported that Stan Bowman’s priority for the Oilers is not retain salary in the trade. Will one of these teams be willing to take on his entire cap hit? Perhaps Holland in LA is the one person who thinks Nurse is worth what he was signed to.
