Vancouver Trades Tyler Myers To The Dallas Stars

In a surprise move, the Dallas Stars are in the process of landing towering defenceman Tyler Myers out of Vancouver. This news was first broken by Darren Dreger in a recent post on X (formerly Twitter). Myers currently has one additional year remaining on his contract, carrying a cap hit of $3 million per season.

This move comes after Dallas announced that Tyler Seguin will miss all the remaining regular and postseason games, giving the Stars additional cap space this season. Myers should bring an edge to Dallas with his ability to throw big hits and knock pucks away with his long reach. Myers, 36, has just 8 points (1 goal, 7 assists) in 57 games. The veteran defender will be looking to win his first Stanley Cup Championship in the upcoming playoff run for the Dallas Stars.

Canucks Are Committed To Rebuilding

Pierre LeBrun posted an update on X, revealing the package Vancouver will be receiving for Myers. If the update proves to be true, the Canucks will receive a second-round pick in 2027 and a fourth-round pick in 2029. In addition, the Canucks will be retaining 50% of Myers’ contract. Following this move, Vancouver will have one more retained salary slot this season and two slots next season.

This move shows Vancouver is fully committed to moving out pieces that are not going to help them in their rebuild. It will give younger players looking to break through and show that they are going to be part of the solution for the Canucks.

Many other Canucks are expected to be dealt at the deadline, as Vancouver looks to accumulate picks and prospects. This season, Vancouver has already traded out former captain Quinn Hughes and fan favourite Kiefer Sherwood. Who will be the next Canuck sent packing as the trade deadline is nearly upon us?
