The NHL’s Most Bizarre Stat Belongs To Ducks Troy Terry

Find out how Troy Terry hits—or rather, his lack of hits—makes him stand out in the NHL this season for the wrong reasons.

Troy Terry of the Anaheim Ducks is making news for an unusual reason. While the Ducks are playing well and leading the Pacific Division, Terry is having a solid offensive season. Through 51 games in 2025-26, the skilled right winger has racked up 17 goals and 35 assists for 52 points. What’s intriguing about his year is that he’s done it all while recording exactly zero hits.

At nearly 18:17 of ice time per game, that’s more than 15 hours on the ice without a single recorded hit—a feat no other player with 50+ games has matched since the NHL began officially tracking the stat.

The numbers get even more remarkable in career context. Across 478 NHL games, Terry has totaled just 54 hits—about one every nine games. Some fans are even hoping he finishes the season without a single hit, a quirky milestone in today’s league.

Some are asking, is this the ultimate “skill-over-grit” performance, or just Troy Terry operating in stealth mode?

One fan wrote, “How on earth is he managing that? I reckon if you’d put me on an NHL team I’d accumulate 10 hits a season just by standing in the way of people accidentally.” Another asked, “What the literal frick?! This is nuts. What is the longest someone has gone without a hit previously?”

Either way, it’s a rare statistical anomaly. Some guys aren’t known for their hitting, but to have none in 51 games feels like a statistical error. As the season winds down, one would imagine the Ducks winger will look to remove the goose egg from the board. It can’t be a good look to finish a season with no hits. It would be one of the worst reasons to enter the record books.
