The Oilers are considered favorites to win the series but they didn’t play like it Saturday as the Blackhawks jumped on them early and often getting a commanding lead after two periods. It’s easy to say now that we can’t rule out the Blackhawks who have lots of playoff experience.
In goal, the Oilers started Mike Smith but he was pulled partway through the second period, while the Blackhawks went with Corey Crawford, who looked steady but let in some goals during the third.
Dominik Kubalik was the stand-out player of the game with two goals and four assists, setting an NHL record for most points in a playoff debut. Connor McDavid scored once and tallied three assists for the Oilers in a losing cause. Edmonton’s power play scored three times as did Chicago’s.
