Kadri Scores With 0.1 Seconds Left, Avalanche Defeat Blues

Nazem Kadri will be the hero in a game that doesn’t really mean much, yet it still probably feels just as good to come through with practically no time left. Kadri scored with 0.1 seconds left in a round-robin seeding game, allowing the Colorado Avalanche to edge out the St. Louis Blues 2-1.

Game Notes:

In the second of three Edmonton-based games, the St. Louis Blues resumed their quest to repeat as Stanley Cup champions and faced the Avalanche in the first of a round-robin seeding match-up in the Western Conference. It was the defending champs versus the potent offense led by Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, and blue line star Cale Makar. The Avs got the first seven shots in the game and the first power play. The Blues were able to kill it off and there was no score past the midway point of period 1. While the Avs continued to take it to St. Louis, it was the Blues who scored first when David Perron scored a ripper on the power play to give the Blues a 1-0 lead at 16:46 of the first. In the second, the Blues bounced back a bit, closing the shot total gap. Still, they couldn’t capitalize and there was no scoring in the second. Through the first two periods, Jordan Binnington stayed hot for the Blues and kept the Avs off the board. But, early in the third, a somewhat broken play and a whiffed shot by Ryan Graves saw him get another crack at it and beat Binnington high glove. With 6:40 left in the third period, the Blues would go on their fourth power play of the game. They weren’t able to take advantage. In the final two minutes of the game, there were chances at both ends, but the Blues got called for a penalty. The question was, would the Blues have Pietrangelo on the penalty kill after blocking a shot? With the Avs swarming and after missing a golden opportunity, Nazem Kadri got a rebound off the bar and scored with under 1 second left on the game clock. The officials took a long look at the play to make sure the puck cross before time expired. It had.. right at 0.1 seconds. The Avalanche end up winning 2-1.
