Rangers’ Igor Shesterkin Leaves Game Hobbling, Injury Status Unclear

Igor Shesterkin was helped off the ice after an apparent right leg injury. Here’s what we know and what it could mean for the Rangers.

More injury news in the NHL: goaltender Igor Shesterkin needed help to leave the ice after an apparent injury, and the New York Rangers will be watching for an update.

The netminder was caught out of his net and slid back hard to get to his post. His right leg appeared to hit the post hard during the play. He immediately lay flat in the crease until the play came to a stop. Shesterkin put no weight on that leg as he was helped off, hobbling down the tunnel with the training staff supporting him.

The team has not said what the injury is, how serious it is, or whether he will return. Nothing visible on the play confirms a diagnosis, and the severity won’t be clear until Shesterkin is examined.

Rangers Can’t Afford to Lose Shesterkin

His status matters well beyond tonight. Shesterkin is the backbone of the Rangers’ franchise. If he’s not in goal, the team traditionally struggles, and any extended absence would change how the team approaches its goaltending.

For now, the picture is incomplete. The medical staff will provide an official update once they’ve evaluated him. Until then, his availability for the Rangers’ next game remains an open question.
