Reports today suggest the Florida Panthers have interest in Eddie Olczyk for their vacant general manager position. Larry Brooks first published the news and TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger confirmed it, noting that other teams have interest in Olczyk as well.

Olczyk, who spent 17 seasons in the NHL from 1984-2000, has been a hockey analyst with NBC Sports for more than the past 10 years.

It is also being reported by Brooks that Rangers Assistant GM Chris Drury, who additionally interviewed for the vacancy, has withdrawn his name from consideration for the job.

The Panthers are looking at a variety of candidates. Among the potential finalists are Peter Chiarelli, Kevin Weekes, Olczyk, and Scott Mellanby. And, while they conduct their search, they are unfortunately linked to the drama surrounding their former GM in Dale Tallon. Tallon is being investigated for allegedly using racially insensitive remarks while with the Panthers during the play-in round of this year’s postseason.
