Clattenburg, represented by Dan Milstein and Vlad Spektor of Gold Star Hockey, was selected 160th overall in the 2024 NHL Draft. The 19-year-old forward made a strong impression in the Ontario Hockey League last season, splitting time between the Soo Greyhounds and Flint Firebirds. He tallied 13 goals, 29 points, and 79 penalty minutes in 60 games, offering a nice blend of offensive ability and physical toughness.
He is currently the captain of the OHL’s Flint Firebirds and has scored 10 goals with eight assists in 22 games thus far this season.
What are the Oilers Hoping to Get Out of Clattenburg?
Standing at 6’2” and 198 pounds, Clattenburg’s physical play and willingness to drop the gloves four times last season make him an interesting prospect for the Oilers. Some have made comparisons to former Oiler icon and fan favorite Kelly Buchberger. Buchberger was drafted 188th overall in 1985 and carved out a successful NHL career through grit and leadership. Both proved to be strong leaders, despite not being the most offensively talented players on their respective teams.
Clattenburg has some of the same qualities.

Clattenburg’s signing hints that Edmonton is continuing to focus on adding size and physicality to their roster. Whether he makes the NHL and carves out a path for himself isn’t clear. He’s not someone that fans will see imminently.
Still, Oilers Nation will watch closely as the young forward develops, hoping he can make a dent over the next few seasons.
